A gritty pinot noir... in more ways than one.
The Earth & Sky series has been developed by the Bosc family, famous for the Chateau des Charmes Niagara winery. This series vows to express the particularities of the Niagara region, a true "terroir" experience. The colour is typical of pinot noir, with a clear garnet red colour. The nose is already very complex and expressive. You will first detect aromas of blackberry, blueberry and fresh cranberry juice, but as the wine breathes, you get peppery notes, bourbon, a certain mineral or dusty feel and earthy tones. To the taste; we get pronounced acidity, a light body and bold tannins. Unfortunately, the tannins are somewhat harsh at first and overpower the substance of the wine. It is only towards the end of the bottle, when the oxygenation has softened the tannins that you can fully appreciate the complexity you expect from the smell. Thus, I strongly suggest you open the bottle an hour of two before enjoying.
