A superstar from the Valpolicella Superiore appelation.
Wine drinkers often underestimate the potential of the Valpolicella region. Unfortunately, the shelves are inundated by low-end Valpolicellas, and even I sometimes forget that you don't have to go for Amarone or Ripasso to find great wine from the Veneto region.
The Marion Valpolicella is of a dark garnet color with brick red edges. The nose is exuberant and complex, with rich aromas of fresh red fruit and blackcurrant, of leather, of moka and of oaky spices. The charming and generous mouth is filled with firm tannins and rich fruit. The flowing acidity is just enough to complement the intensity and substance of this full bodied Valpolicella. The finish is well balance and persists with flesh and elegance. The complexity is already well developed from this 2009 vintage but could easily evolve for another five to seven years.
