Ottawa's Byward Market is full of those medium sized trendy restaurant, we thought it would be a good idea to start the evening off. For this dinner out, I was joined by Fairmont's Chateau Laurier Chef Concierge (and my wife) Marie-Eve Dorégo.
Stella Osteria's exterior is very subtle and will not necessarily catch your eye, neither will the interior. It is designed to recreate the feel of a traditional restaurant in Italy, with brick walls, wood floors soft lighting; but is jazzed up by items of more modern decor.
We were very well greeted and served with a smile during our meal. Even if we mentioned we only had 45 minutes to eat our server made it happen.
We did not have a chance to really dig into the beverage list for such a short meal, but from what I could make of it, there is a wide selection of wine and creative cocktails to suit all occasions. Wines by the glass have their full page, they are slightly expensive, but make up by being generous portions.
All in all, STELLA OSTERIA is a fair place to eat, food is diverse, service friendly and there is a nice selection of beverages. Just don't expect the meal of your life; and as with almost every Byward Market address, expect to pay à higher price.
This restaurant would be an excellent start to an evening out with friends.
